Publisher's Corner

Genealogy is defined as "an account of the descent of a person, family or group from an ancestor". But, of course, the hard part is obtaining that "account". I have been working on the Cathcart family genealogy for about 8 years now, and I don't feel like I am close to knowing everything about the family.

In this, my first issue, I will be concentrating on the general history of the ancient Cathcart Clan, which actually appears to have been of "Norman" extraction. You will see just how closely aligned our family was with Robert de Bruc, King of Scots and William Wallace of "Braveheart" fame.

In upcoming issues I will try and take you on my genealogy trip with me. I think it will be fun and if you want to contribute with information or ideas, please feel free to let me know via email at billparmer@comcast.net.

Acknowledgments

Whenever you are working on a research project, such as a family, you will normally be indebted to so many relations, organizations, and private researchers that they are too numerous to mention specifically. However, I must give my personal thanks to Mr. Bob Cathcart, a Cathcart researcher from Australia, who provided invaluable research assistance to me several years ago. Thanks Bob.

I would ask for everyone to let me know what you think about my site. I appreciate any and all comments that you make and will take any recommendations to make this site better.
